The Ministry of Youth and Sports has taken a significant step toward transforming Sri Lanka into a premier international sports tourism hub.
Following a special meeting held last week with Mr. Saabir Cader, Founder and Director of ‘Asia Pacific Lions Rugby’ (APL), and his delegation, the Ministry has granted full approval and official support for an exclusive international sports week scheduled from August 22nd to 28th.
Northampton Saints: For the first time in British Premiership Rugby history, the renowned team featuring 10 English international players will tour Sri Lanka.
World-Class Stars: Participation of legendary Australian rugby icon David Campese and former Wallabies captain Will Genia, along with many global stars.
August 23: A unique T20 Charity Cricket Match between international rugby stars and Sri Lanka Cricket Legends.
Local Sports Development: International training opportunities for the Sri Lanka XVs squad, ‘Coach the Coach’ programs, and island-wide community outreach sessions.
August 28: The grand finale and Main Rugby Match of the tour at the Colombo Racecourse International Stadium.
The Ministry aims to globally promote Sri Lanka as a safe, world-class sports tourism destination through this prestigious international event.
