The new Minister of Tourism is looking at the Indian market to turn around the industry which has been hard hit by the current economic crisis followed by political instability.
A 17-point strategy document, the ‘Revival for Survival’ plan, drafted by the Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO) and One Industry One Voice has been discussed with Tourism Minister Harin Fernando.
The Tourism Authority is planning to reach out to foreign countries to reverse the negative travel advisories currently in place, prioritize the supply of fuel, gas, and electricity to the hotels and those providing services for tourists and carry out marketing efforts, targeting risk-averse markets such as India, the Middle East, Russia/CIS, and Eastern Europe.
Delhi and Mumbai have been identified as cities to be targeted to boost tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka.
